There is an experience called “the bridge I’ve crossed is more than the one you’ve crossed”. Have you seen the world’s most special bridge? Take a look at the next bridge that might change your perspective on them.Let’s have a guess. Which of these bridges need bridge bearings?
Part 1
01. The sexiest bridge in the United States is the Chinese knot-shaped pedestrian bridge in Changsha, Hunan Province. It is 183 meters long. The entire bridge looks like a “Chinese knot” and “braids”. Three paths wind and twist at five nodes and change directions randomly. Every step to the bridge is a surprise. It attracts many children to play hide-and-seek there.
02. On a normal day, the Rolling Bridge in Paddington, London, is a pedestrian bridge. It is called the “Rolling” Bridge. However, if a boat needs to pass, it has eight retractable sections that can curl up.
03. The “Most Vibrant” Bridge: The Living Tree Bridge in Cherrapunji, India. Craftsmen in a region with abundant rainfall make money from trees, as traditional bridges often rot. Therefore, locals guide the roots of banyan trees to take root in bamboo bridges and then wait for them to grow. The process, which can take up to 60 years, eventually wraps the entire bridge. The end result is an indestructible bridge.
04. The “steepest” bridge: Ejima Bridge. If you cross it in Japan, you’ll feel like you’re on a roller coaster. From a distance, the bridge seems to be upside down, reaching a 90-degree angle.
Part 2
05. “Combined” Bridge: Guangqiao Bridge in Guangdong is the Guangqiao Bridge of Guangdong Province, which is known as “the world’s earliest open bridge”. Every morning at 10 o’clock, a barge will pull out 18 floating bridges and connect them to allow pedestrians to cross the river. At 5:30 p.m., the floating bridges are disconnected, and at night, ships pass through.
06. “Encountering the Fountain” Bridge: The Banpo Main Span Bridge in South Korea. This is a “double-deck” bridge. The upper half is a highway. The lower part is suitable for pedestrians and bicycles. At night, a musical fountain with nearly 10,000 LED nozzles installed on both sides of the bridge plays. Under the neon lights, the fountain is particularly beautiful.
07. “Doath Done” Bridge: The Magdeburg Water Bridge in Germany. This is the longest water bridge in the world. Germans call it a river. The bridge crosses the Elbe River, and the Elbe River flows quietly beneath it. It connects to another faster artificial pipe. Boats can sail on it. This bridge is also open to pedestrians and cyclists.
08. “Land and Sea” Bridge: The Feruvo Lake Road Bridge in the Netherlands. Dutch designers have subverted the traditional relationship between rivers and bridges. They allow cars to travel underwater while boats pass over. From the air, the bridge appears to be cut in half, but vehicles cross it.
Part 3
09. The most magical bridge is the Golden Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam. It is supported by two “mountain god’s hands” coming from the mountain. The bridge is only 150 meters long. But from a distance, it looks very grand against the backdrop of the stone hands.
People can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Panamanian mountains. “The Mountain God” protects it. Flowers are blooming on both sides of the path.
10. The “Most Stupid” Bridge: The Moses Bridge in the Netherlands. It seems that the designer got it upside down. It is located beneath the West Brabant Waterway, dividing it in two. The Moses Bridge is so unique that it attracts many visitors. After crossing this bridge, it is parallel to the water surface, and you can see both sides of the river by looking up.
11. The Storseisundet Bridge in Norway has a steep design. The designer used visual tricks to make the winding bridge and road look like a “broken-tail road”. Many first-time drivers can only see the front part of the bridge. They can’t see the rest. This makes them tremble.
12. “Tiltable” Bridge: The Gateshead Millennium Bridge. This is the world’s first and only tilting bridge, located in Gateshead, UK. Its design is inspired by “blinking”, so it is also called the “Blinking Bridge”. Pedestrians and bicycles can pass, but vehicles cannot. Notably, when a passing ship is detected, then the pressure lifters can rotate the bridge. The rotation is also a delightful sight.
13. The “Strongest” Bridge: Da Nang Dragon Bridge. This dragon-shaped bridge spans the Han River in Da Nang, Vietnam.
The golden dragon winds its way across the bridge. At night, the bridge is illuminated with a light show in various colors. Sometimes, it is accompanied by water sprayed from water spouts or a firework display. It is truly amazing.
Part 4
14. The strangest bridge: Taoying Bridge in Hunan. Most bridges are thick at both ends and thin in the middle. This bridge is an exception. The entire pier is suspended, as if it were part of a suspension bridge, with several piers on top. It makes people sweat when they walk on it. But it has lasted for more than 30 years. It’s so amazing!
15. The longest glass bridge: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge
It is the highest and longest glass bridge in the world.
Every day, countless people give it a try.
The bridge deck is 536 meters long and over 280 meters above the bottom. Standing on the Yuntian Du, it feels as if you are in the air. The glass deck offers a thrilling view of the rugged landscape.
It has passed multiple safety tests.
Even if there is wind in the canyon, there is no need to worry.
Even many foreigners are amazed.
After all, only China dares to design like this!
