Construction Process: Preparations Before Pot Beam Installation

1. Draw the centerline at the design position of the pot beam, and mark the centerline on the top and bottom plates.

2. Thread the anchor bolt into the anchor bolt hole of the base plate (top plate) and screw it into the bottom column. Place a rubber washer between the base plate and the bottom column. The washer’s diameter should be a bit larger than the bottom column.

3. After placing the pot beam, pour epoxy mortar or high-grade mortar into the anchor bolt hole. Also, fill the base plate cushion. Make sure to center and level it. Take out the cushion block once the mortar is hard. Then, fill the space with epoxy mortar. The workers must pour the epoxy mortar in a thick layer.

4. When welding connects pot-bearing, embed steel plates in the top and bottom plates. Then, use symmetric intermittent square welding after they are in place. During welding, be careful. Too much heat can damage the rubber plate and the polytetrafluoroethylene plate. The team must carry out rust release treatment on the welded parts after welding.

5. If the T-beam is a pot type, construction workers need to install support measures at the beam end. This will stop the T-beam from tilting. Remove the temporary support after welding the transverse diaphragms to the two T-beams.

6. After unpacking, protect the PTFE plate and stainless steel sliding plate. Keep them free from scratches and dirt. Also, check if someone has filled the 5201-2 silicone grease.

7. The pot beam centerline must coincide with or be parallel to the main beam centerline. When installing the pot beam, keep the upper and lower guide blocks parallel. The intersection angle should not exceed 5°. For continuous beam bridges, take thermal insulation steps. This helps protect rubber and polytetrafluoroethylene plates. Do this when using temporary anchorage devices for system changes and cutting.
